Did Anyone Notice That Howard Dean Was In Town Last Night?

I don’t know if anyone heard (or cared), but National Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean attended the Monroe County Democratic Convention last night. I had heard from my more liberal friends and colleagues how they were bracing for the storm of wonderfulness and delightfulness that would result from Dean’s visit and subsequent speech (Hopefully, Mr. Dean would give everyone a great bid bellowing scream to get the party faithful all wound up. I had heard that his visit would be a countywide referendum on the failures of Republicans and the way they’ve been governing our area. Unfortunately, those darn Liberals got my hopes up that some great breakthrough would be made. Well, they fibbed again.

According to the videos of our 4 news stations in Rochester, the only people besides the political insiders who were inside the building, that welcomed the DNC chair were……reporters. I saw no clips of supporters greeting the former Governor of Vermont’s plane as it landed at the airport. I saw no clips of folks lining the sidewalks and roadways as his motorcade passed by. Our very own Sister Grace Miller didn’t even try to get herself run over by Dean after he had already passed by. Although a local Hillary supporter did chase after the large SUV as it left hoping to convince the National Chairman to allow Clinton to steal the nomination from Obama. I was so very disappointed. I’m sure Howard Dean was too.

You’d think since Dean wasn’t slowed down by the mass of pushing and shoving fans fighting desperately to touch the shoulder of the Great Screamer that he would at least take questions from the reporters who waited with baited breath to interview him. But nope, once again I was disappointed by a liberal. I felt especially bad for this young African American reporter (I don’t know his name) from Channel 8 who seemed to be making his bones covering the former Governor at this event. All he wanted to do was ask Dean a question. He followed Dean from the door of his gas-guzzling SUV all the way to the back door of the German House. But Dean avoided and ignored him. How can the leader of the party that claims to speak for those people without a voice, have complete disregard for the questions that the people are trying to ask?

Even his own local party members appeared to be brushed off by the stand-offish Howard Dean. They seemed to want to know who he supports for president and if Hilary should drop out of the race. Perhaps he could’ve spoken to County Chairman Joe Morelle and taken a page out of his book about endorsing candidates before the voters have had their say. Dean preaches about Democrats speaking for the people…as his party decides their Presidential nominee through a straw poll of the insider elites (that is until they force Madame Clinton out of the race).

As a side note, the only people who were outside the German House “welcoming” Dean appeared to be in the midst of a candidate placard battle. I was afraid that, while on opposite sides of the road, the Clinton supporters (seemed to be 2 women), and Obama supporters (about a half of dozen people) were going to channel the DNC convention of 1968 and start a riot. I prayed that their lawn chairs would not be used as deadly projectiles potentially harming independent, moderates in the vicinity. Luckily, no casualties were reported from the site.

Bottom line. The whole thing seemed to be a real snoozer with Howard Dean acting like the quintessential liberal elitist, thumbing his nose at the local media and his own local Democrat committee members. *sigh*
