Demeaning Towards Women — Is This What It Means to Be A Democrat These Days?
As a woman and a mother I am appalled at the Democratic party today.
I asked if the people who run this site could post an email for me and they replied, “Sure, but you can feel free to post it yourself if you’d like.” I figured, well maybe just this once because something I read made me absolutely sick today. I read a number of internet blogsites. Mainly political and current event sites. And I read both sides so I can make fair assessments. There is a local Democratic leaning one that I read often and many posters there are firm in their beliefs but explain in detail their reasoning. But this one person always seems to be very nasty and mean. I said I would not include the persons blog name but this is what the person wrote. It is in reference to the county executive Maggie Brooks and the GOP Chairman Steve Minarik.
Here is what the person wrote:
“And you can then suckle with Maggie in a corner somewhere and count the days until her term of terror is through as well. Man - it’s great to be Democrat these days!”
Is this reflective of what it really means to be a “democrat” these days? I sure as heck hope not.This insult (one of many this particular person makes) to a woman elected leader is absolutely disgusting. I don’t care for Mr. Minarik myself, but writng garbage like this is down right sickening and degrades her as a professional woman. We have our Democratic party leaders trying to prevent two women from running for the state senate office and now this is how their supporters speak of women. It is sick and it is wrong. To me this person has no place in my former Democratic party (I’m proudly an Independent now) and sounds more like a crazy psychopath if you ask me.
And it wouldn’t matter to me if it’s Maggie Brooks or Hillary Clinton. Many people refer to Hillary as a B-word and I think that’s terrible too. Can you imagine being these women’s daughters and reading something like this about your own mother?
I’ll never join the Republicans but I’ve never been happier to no longer be a Democrat these days!
There. Thank you for letting me spout off. It did feel good.

Yes I know what you mean. There are blogs in Rochester that are as nasty as you can get. Its amazing how the media would savage a republican for saying the same things that democrats say every day.
The Democratic party does a good job at talking about having an open tent. But when it comes to practicing that its another story. Locally there are two women running for the 56th senate district that are getting the cold shoulder.
Thank you for your post MissManners. Excellent points. The Liberal/Progressives try to paint themselves as the party of acceptance. Pushing Sandy and Willa out of the race proves otherwise.
If the demoncrats force Frankel and Powell to not pursue a primary, I (on prniciple only) hope they would consider the liberal party endorsement or forming their own party line.
In reality, aside from the disregarding of these women by the democratic party, I agree that I’d much rather see a Robach/Dollinger race. Dollinger is the weaker candidate of the three. He’ll slink right down into the mud which will backfire on him with the voters.
He’s already started with illegal campaign mailers. He can’t help himself. Just ask others in the democratic party about him. You’ll be in for a real shock.
Here we go again. Another nasty comment about an elected woman. This time it’s the Monroe Clerk, Cheryl Dinolfo. She’s the one being challenged by Tom Hasman, one of Joe Morelle’s political workers who endorses inappropriate sexual material being shown to children. Here it is:
“All the Dems have to do is label Cheryl Dinolfo as a fear-mongering idiot…”
What does the Democrat party have against women?
*sigh*
MissManners:
In addition to the local democrat supporters making demeaning statements about women elected officials, don’t you find it interesting that the local party leadership hasn’t supported women candidates at the highest levels of government?
Actually, the local Republican party seems to be more encouraging of women candidates.
Could it be that in addition to feeding a line a bull to minorities, the current local Democrat party leadership is doing the same to women?
Mayor=white male
D.A.=white male
County Exec Candidate=did they support the white male who ran?
County Clerk Candidate=white male
56th Senate=white male (even though 2 women sought party support)
Now, in all fairness, I think there is a woman running in the 54th Senate seat against Senator Mike Nozzolio.
But we’ll see how much the local Democrat party supports her.
