Why Doesn’t the D&C Report on Irondequoit Democrats Who Steal?
On Saturday morning it looked like half of section A news in the Democrat and Chronicle was devoted to a Water Authority employee who received waste dirt products and saved the Authority money. The transaction was legal and available to anyone who requested the excavated dirt. The Water Authority pays huge dollars to cart the worthless stuff away and put it in a landfill. The D&C made it seem like a vast conspiracy to steal Water Authority assets. It was nothing of the kind.
This week an Irondequoit story in the Messenger Post states “The affair seems to involve the alleged diverting of taxpayer-paid raw materials to a private location.” Supervisor Mary Ellen Heyman said “I was deeply troubled and personally offended to learn that town employees have engaged in activities constituting a serious breach of the public trust.” The story says nothing about what the breach was or who the specific employees were. The fact that the Supervisor considers it a “serious breach” makes it seem newsworthy.
So why does 3 employees committing a serious breach of public trust not rank a word in the D&C? Could it be that Irondequoit has a 100% Democratic administration and Town Council?
Come on D&C quit making stories out of nothing and ignoring stories that are a serious breach of public trust.

I have been following this blog since February. I am glad to see that someone is starting to write about Irondequoit. As a resident I am getting fed up with the current administration. I am what is referred to as a swing voter or Independent. When Ms. Heyman was campaigning one of her big issue was home values. I remember her saying that she would increase them. I didn’t think she meant assessed values. I just got my reassessment with a whopping 20% increase!!
Sometimes I wonder if we have a Supervisor in Irondequoit. I know that we have consultants that Mary Ellen Heyman hired to teach her how to run a town. But I do not hear much from her.
I don’t get the MP, just the D&C. I’ve read the story in the D&C. The story smells of a witch hunt. It costs a driver, a truck, and landfill fees to get rid of spoil. It appears the town saves on the landfill fees by dumping on private. Just saying.
Thanks JimQ
The exact point I am getting at. The D&C thinks it is appropriate to have a front page story with a half jump page over the Water Authority doing the same thing. However when the Supervisor of the the second Largest town in the county declares “A serious breach of public trust” it makes page 11b. I agree if they are spoil and have value to people in the town we should give them away (an example of this is mulch that many towns pile up for take away). This is assuming that the Towns is spoil. We know the Water Authorities is. I am doing some investigation now to find out what the alleged items were. I will report my findings either way.
