I see what drjny is referencing InsideP. It's that one line "That and giving driver licenses to illegal aliens."

And I think drjny and you actually both agree that giving licenses to illegal immigrants was a foolish and dangerous policy.

Now, Spano and Spitzer are both gone and unless the Democrats plan to reintroduce this, it's never gonna happen...

...much like the cutting of taxes here in New York. The Unholy Trinity (David Paterson, Sheldon Silver and Malcolm Smith) have made it very clear that they will never allow this to happen.

It's a very sad thought that middle class taxpayers might soon be literally paying for the bad policies forced down our throats by a state controlled by New York City and one party rule.

With only the Dems policing themselves, corruption will rise to new heights. Get ready folks.

Welcome to Monroerising drjny. Great comments!

Feel free to post whatever you want wherever, but it helps us and our readers and posters if we stay on topic as best as possible.

Even though your post doesn't really have anything to do with this thread, you bring up a good point.

Licensing of illegal aliens is amongst the worst possible things that could ever be forced upon the citizens and those legally seeking citizenry in this state. Thank God that bill never made it to the floor in either house for a vote.

Since you seem to acknowledge that licensing of illegals would be considered as something that would contribute to the mess here in New York, I expect you may share the same view that what Governor Eliot Spitzer did was a very bad thing.

At least Spano's bill never went anywhere. Since the discussion surrounding the bill back then was that it was a bad idea, why in the world would Spitzer go even further and take it out of the Legislature's and the public's hands by dictating an executive order?

75+% of NYers opposed it and our Democrat Governor basically calls us all racists.

Did you know that even though Respublicans and some Dems moved to block his insanity, reportedly 23,000 illegal aliens moved quick enough and were given driver's licenses here in New York?

I agree, what Spano unsuccessfully tried to do was bad. What Spitzer did was way, way worse.

Thanks for visiting and we look forward to more of you comments here at Monroerising.

It was Republican Senator Nick Spano in 2006 who first authored legislation to give licenses to illegal immigrants. And it was Republican State Senator Thomas Libous, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, who fully supported this legislation and spoke openly on its behalf. The same Senator who then grilled the DMV Commissioner in 2007 over the issue.

Republicans have us in the mess NYS is in right now.

Examine the facts.
