Democrat and Chronicle — The Conspiracy Continues

Maybe it’s me.  I can’t help but notice the local “news”paper’s injection of politics into everything they do.  Chili Supervisor David Dunnings switch from the Democratic to Republican Party is the latest example.

Just yesterday they had a story about Chili possibly getting its’ first hotel.  Let’s see, a story about the first hotel in Chili and no comment from David Dunning or anyone else in town government.  Hmmm.  I find that very interesting.  Has anyone else noticed that they haven’t used that picture of Dunning since he announced his party switch? They put in every piece about Chili when he was a Democrat?

I’m sure there are logical explainations for this — other than the D&C doesn’t like Republicans.

Obama “Clinging” To Misguided Sense Of Who And What We Are

What happened to change and future as a theme with Barack Obama?  While in San Francisco he made the following comments:

You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothings replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

His comments show he does not understand most people’s concept of religion.  Religion is a person’s relationship with God. I look to my religion both in good times and bad, not just when I am bitter or angry. I thank God when I have a good day as well as when I am in trouble.  [Read more →]

More News On Former Governor Spitzer

Gentle Reader:

I’ve taken a little time to cool off after my previous post on Senator Debbie Stebenow’s husband’s arrest for soliciting a prostitute.

After having time to reflect on his humanity, I’m actually starting to feel bad for former Governor Spitzer.  The pictures of him walking the dog or riding to marriage therapy in the front seat while his wife Silda sits alone in the back seat are very sad.

I’m not the only one with the former Governor on their mind.  I was at the Santana concert in Albany last week where Carlos Santana commented on the events that brought about the former Governor’s demise.  (I’m a big fan of Santana — I think 1968’s Live At The Fillmore is the best live album ever recorded.) Democratic Congressional Candidate Jon Powers And War Kids Relief — What’s The Deal?

A Democratic friend of mine told me the other day she was really excited about their congressional candidate to replace Tom Reynolds, Jon Powers, a war veteran from Erie County.  I asked her what she liked about him and she told me about this charity Powers started called War Kids Relief. I think the real reason she liked him is that he wasn’t a Republican.

I decided to look into this organization.  All my friend knew about the charity was it helped kids in Iraq.  My first thought was that there were plenty of kids in the United States needing help — but I was going to try and keep an open mind.

The funny thing is when I did a Google search for War Kids Relief, all I found was references to how it was created by Jon Powers.  Stuff put out by his campaign.  I went to youtube and again, the only reference to War Kids Relief was in the context of Jon Powers creating it — again stuff put out by his campaign.

I found all of the following links by doing a Google search on War Kids Relief.  The only problem is that none of them work:

http://www.vvaf.org/programs/war-kids-relief/

http://www.warkidsrelief.org/

http://www.vvaf.org/

http://www.vvaf.org/programs/immap/iraq/

Funny, when I did a Google search on Jon Powers for Congress, I found the following links and they all worked:

http://www.powersforcongress.com/

http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/18111

So here is my conclusion.  Jon Powers knows something about websites — he is quite good at self promotion.  But what about that charity my Democratic friend told me about?  I’m starting to think that it was a resume building activity that Jon has left in the dust.

Let’s hope someone in the media asks him about this — he needs to come clean on this explain what’s going on.

Spitzer Finds Job — Working For His Dad!

Gentle Reader:

Disgraced former Governor Spitzer, aka Client Number 9, has a new job according to the New York Daily News. And he’s going to a therapist working on his “issues” (see definitions 2 and 3).  According to the Daily News:

Eliot Spitzer may have lost his office but he’s found a job - working at his father’s real estate company.

The disgraced Spitzer, who resigned as governor a month ago after the feds caught him soliciting sex from a call-girl ring, is also seeing a therapist, according to a report in the upcoming New York magazine confirmed by the Daily News.

(snip)

But mostly Spitzer is overseeing his family’s real estate business for his father, who is hospitalized with Parkinson’s disease.

“Eliot’s sort of running the show. It’s money management and property management, basically,” said a friend.

The elder Spitzer, 83, built a $500 million real estate empire that includes a full or partial stake in 10 buildings in Manhattan, including five facing Central Park.

Imagine — one of the most powerful men in the state one month and then having to work for your Dad.  That’s quite a fall.

Is Hillary Clinton For Real On The Olympics? Why Didn’t She Speak-Up When She Was First Lady?

I don’t remember Hillary complaining about China back in 90’s when her husband was granting waivers to tech companies that sold weapons to improve the accuracy of their nuclear missiles. Oh wait, those missiles were only pointed at us – notTibet.  Now that she’s running for President, she has all kinds of advice - like boycotting the Olympics .

Lets go down memory lane and look at some of the Clinton’s illegal Chinese fund raising that has put our nations security at risk.

During the year of the rat the Lippo group and James Riady, the wealthy Indonesian, funneled illegal Chinese campaign donations with John Huang. Click here for the Washington post article.

Charlie Trie, owned a Chinese restaurant in Arkansas that the Clinton’s loved to eat at. As a way if saying thank you, Charlie gave Bill’s campaign $460,000 – most in consecutive numbered $1000 money orders that his friends bought at a 7/11 one night. President Clinton Appreciated his help so much he named him to the Arkansas fire extinguisher board.

Is this all coming back my friends? The sad thing is I could go on and on. I fear the editors here at Monroe Rising will yell “enough”! All of these scandals are in a chronology in a PBS Frontline documentary. The scandals included coffees,  sleepovers in the Lincoln bedroom, on and on…. [Read more →]

Democrat and Chronicle Has 1A Story On Chili Supervisor David Dunning Becoming A Republican

Oops — I spoke to soon.  Just yesterday, I congratulated the Democrat and Chronicle for going three days without an editorial blasting Chili Supervisor David Dunning’s party switch from Democrat to Republican. But, today’s edition had a front page story on how mad the Democrats were over Dunning (who was never an active Democrat Committee member) switching and becoming a Republican.

They are trying to milk this for all they can — perhaps trying to fill the void in the news since the Monroe County Public Defender fiasco created by Assemblyman David Gantt.

Democratic Party Chairman Joe Morelle, himself a paragon of virtue, said this:

This is a betrayal, because the people in Chili who supported Dunning did so in the belief that he was a Democrat and would continue to be one, so this is hard to digest,” said Morelle.

The article went on to point out that:

The Chili Democratic Committee contributed $671 during the election to Dunning’s campaign, according to state financial disclosure reports. That donation last year represented the largest individual contribution disclosed, but only a fraction of the $8,047 raised. [Read more →]

Bellavia Should Apologize For Comment And Move On

Did you catch 26th Congressional Candidate David Bellavia compare Barack Obama to Tiger Woods when he introduced Senator John McCain?  Pure and simple it was a dumb statement.  The longer he refuses to admit he made a mistake, the worse it gets.  Plus, the stumbling delivery wasn’t very impressive.

Comparing the two most famous Americans of mixed race is an amateur mistake. Saying it was unintentional is hard to believe.  Take a look for yourself.

Day Three With No New D&C Editorial on Chili Supervisor David Dunning

I have to hand it to the hypocrites over at the the Democrat and Chronicle Editorial Page — they been able to go three whole days without an editorial criticizing Chili Supervisor David Dunning.

They are really unbelievable.  They went gaga over Dunning because he was historic, in their eyes anyways.  He announced his candidacy on their Chili blog last year and they were so excited.  This represented a new era in local politics.

Well, the guy’s election has as much to do with his opponent, former Supervisor Tracy Logel’s personality, as anything else.  Anyone who spent more than 3 minutes with her realized how difficult she was to work with.

He starts the job and finds out that despite what Joe Morelle and the D&C editorial board say, Republicans aren’t really bad people.  In fact, he figures he can get more done for his town by working with them instead of trying to set up the 2009 campaign for a Democratic turnover.

Look at what the D&C had to say about Dunning:

Chili residents can only hope that Dunning is more sincere about his latest claim of looking out for their interests. What’s alarming isn’t that Dunning chose the GOP, but rather the way he went about it. This from someone who promised a new way of doing business.

Ah yes, there we go with that process thing again. [Read more →]

Calling Assemblywoman Susan John — Where Are You?

We recently had an editorial meeting here at Monroerising.com.  In an effort to be fair to all parties we took an inventory of who our favorite targets have been over the past few months.  We also wanted to reflect our first three months.

Without question, our best friend during our first quarter has been Assemblyman David Gantt.  Gantt’s antics in the County Legislature have given us posts that have practically written themselves.  Additionally, some of our highest traffic days and the stories that get the most comments are when the good Assemblyman is involved. Client Number 9, Governor Paterson’s indiscretions, Sandy Frankel, the Gannett editorial board and Rick Dollinger weren’t that far behind.

Prudence brought up an interesting point — we have yet to mention Assemblywoman Susan John in any posts.  The more we talked about it the more we realized that this woman has been invisible.  I haven’t seen one thing she’s done. She was quoted in a couple of budget stories, but then again so was Joe Errigo.

Has anyone (other than Albany insiders) seen her lately?  Maybe that’s why she’s barely re-elected year after year in one of upstate New York’s most Democratic Districts.
