Wiccan Says Prayer At Greece Town Board Meeting

The D&C’s updated website is terrible. I missed this — caught it in the opinion section of the Friday paper.   According to Petrena Hayes’ blog posting, a Wiccan said the prayer at the Greece Town Board.  Here is what Petrena had to say:

I made it to the Greece Town Board meeting tonight. Jen Zarpentine, who is a Wiccan, was set to open the meeting with a prayer.

I expected there would be a good group of people there but there wasn’t… maybe about seventeen people in attendance.

Jen Zarpentine led the prayer and she prayed to the Goddess of Athena and Apollo. It lasted about 20 seconds and then it was over. Supervisor Auberger thanked her and said, “We appreciate you being here tonight”.

So that was it, no big controversy.

Huh?  Those religious zealots in Greece let a non-christian say a prayer? Maybe they aren’t that bad after all.  Maybe they aren’t trying to force their religion on everyone.

Someone in the chat section of Petrena’s post pointed the finger of blame for the controversy at the head of the local cable access station, Brian Caterino.  I don’t know this man, but it is clear to me that political opponents are behind the lawsuit. We had a post earlier  about the Greece Prayer– take a look at the comments section.  Our readers do a good job about exposing Linda Stephens and Susan Galloway (the two women who sued Greece) as Democratic partisians.

These people, much like Barack Obama, don’t understand the role that religion plays in most people’s lives.  It is a source of strength and inspiration — not a source of hate and intolerance.

I feel bad for the people suing Greece over letting people express their faith.  I think they would be much happier if they would read the teachings of Jesus.  Even if they don’t accept Him as their personal savior, they would benefit from learning His teachings and live their live according to His principles.

Amen.

I wonder if we will start to hear about the “Religious Left”. I would love to see some press on that.

It is interesting that the Pope is in America this week. Bill Mahr went into a disgusting vile snit, which was void of any truth. However our media just blew it over. Even more important the Catholic Church was silent. The Pope’s response was to pray for him and make some statements of deep regret over the pedophile scandal.

He then meet with victims to personally apologize. This was not nescessary because after a huge lawsuit and payout to victims, legally the issue is over. However morally the Pope had a need to make ammends.

  2. Wait, wait wait. Hold on just one cotton picken minute! I thought republicans were supposed to hate anyone who wasn’t part of the religious right?

But, if they didn’t make this process open to anyone but Baptists, Catholics and Christian-only faiths, well how would a wiccan priestess know to even inquire if she could give a sectarian prayer?

I now feel bad for the Brighton woman who got so mad about this that she started this whole lawsuit business and forced Greece taxpayers to foot the bill, even tough she lives in Brighton. The lawsuit is finished. Or she needs to crap on the wiccans now too.

Apparently, the liberal elitists don’t have enough to keep themselves busy in Brighton so they need to start trouble with the people of Greece.
