Democratic Congressional Candidate Jon Powers Cited For Campaign Finance Violation!

Wow, this is amazing.  Liberal Democratic darling to replace Tom Reynolds Jon Powers, has violated the Federal Election Commission laws regarding paying yourself rent out of your campaign account.

According to the front page story in the D&C.

The $500-a-month payments were a violation of campaign law, even if the candidate was using the residence as a base of campaign operations, as Powers was.

According to the congressional campaign guide published by the FEC, “The campaign may not pay for mortgage, rent or utilities for the personal residence of the candidate or the candidate’s family even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign.”

We were the first to tell you last week that the charity set up by Powers — War Kids Relief — the charity all the Democrats were going gaga over — (it showed how compassionate Powers was compared to those heartless Republicans) — appears to be nothing more than a resume builder for Powers.  Do a Google search and the only mention of it is in the context of what a great guy Powers is.  There’s no way to donate money (pretty important for a legitimate charity) and any information links you can find don’t work.

Violating the election law is a new low.  What do the people who donate money to this guy think?  Do you think they donated so this guy could pay his mortgage?

Even the Democrats have to admit that fellow Democrat Jack Davis’ analysis that Powers was running because he needs a job appears to be right on the money.  The other day I saw Powers listed in a newspaper article as a substitute teacher –  I think they make about $100-$125 dollars a day — so I can see why this guy was caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

One final point.  I’ve never heard of any politician paying rent to themselves.  Not Jim Walsh, Tom Reynolds or even Randy Kuhl.  This reinforces my opinion that Congress is no place for someone to get on the job training.  First David Bellavia comparing Tiger Woods and Barack Obama and now Jon Powers doing this.

These guys must have pretty health egos, but maybe they should learn something about politics before deciding to run for Congress.

  1. Equalizer

I still can’t find the website!!! I did call the phone number in Washington DC that was provided. I got a recording to leave a message. The message I left was “Where is this website?”. To this day no one has returned my call.

We may all get to enjoy another Jack Davis campaign. Should be good for a few more laughs as he promises not to accept pay. Last time he was ahead by 30 points in October and still blew it. How much money can Jack Davis have in a society that is bad and repressive? Interesting that he made all that money in the district that is so conservative.

  2. Looks like you are right. According to the Buffalo news. Substitue teacher Jon Powers is going to reimburse his campaign $4000 for rent.

Wouldn’t theft of $4000 be grand larceny? How many people who stole that much money would love to say “I will give it back” after they got caught? Then have it be all done with. This person wants to be able to make the laws of our country? Please Mr. Powers stick to substitue teaching, but first learn about the law so you dont infect our children.

I also wonder when the local bird cage liner we call the Democrat and Chronicle is going to print this story?

  3. Don’t hold your breadth tiberius because they won’t.

Jon Powers is a democrat and the liberal elitists (which includes our print media) will NEVER, EVER, EVER print anything bad about him… even if it’s true.

    Especially if it’s true.

  4. Looks like Jon Powers is not the friendly, squeaky clean political candidate his staff is trying to make him out to be.
