Obama “Clinging” To Misguided Sense Of Who And What We Are

What happened to change and future as a theme with Barack Obama?  While in San Francisco he made the following comments:

You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothings replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

His comments show he does not understand most people’s concept of religion.  Religion is a person’s relationship with God. I look to my religion both in good times and bad, not just when I am bitter or angry. I thank God when I have a good day as well as when I am in trouble.

This is a concept that the elitist secularists in San Francisco cannot understand.  They see guns and religion as an opiate of the people and believe that a person only turns to God in bad times.  Obama’s condescending attitude, as well as his wife’s comments about how for the first time in her life she is proud of America, show how out of touch they are.

People may feel economically challenged, but in the overwhelming number of cases, they still love their country.  I think this is a concept the far left fails to understand.  Being challenged does not cause most people to hate.

Elitist attitudes have sunk Democrats in the past.  Whether it was John Kerry riding his $8000 bicycle in a Speedo,  or Al Gore declaring “The debate is over on global warming” while he flies in private jets and uses 20 times the energy of the average home in Nashville, Democrats being out of touch with “middle America” has cost them dearly.

This election will be no different.  The best thing John McCain can do is go on vacation until late October.  The best strategy is to let the Democrats be themselves and show who they really are.  If that happens, we will be watching President McCain’s inauguration in January 2009.

  1. I grew up in rural New York, not too far from the Pennsylvania border. In rural America we help each other when there is a problem. We do not look to the government and if we do get angry we don’t let it get to the point we are bitter. Obama can use all his eloquent speaking talents, but he will not ever convince me he is nothing more than a darling of the liberals and an elitist limousine liberal.

  2. Let’s look at all the things that Bush says that he would like to take back! What Barack meant was that people are bitter about losing jobs. The days are long and many flights can get you tired. A right wing media that takes him out of context is what is really the problem here.

Lucky for McCain we are fighting with each other or I could imagine the things we would be hearing that old senile fool saying.

  3. Grant,

Thats the best you can do? Blame it on jet lag and insult John McCain about his age?

Basically what Obama is saying is if you are not voting liberal you are too stupid and need a crutch like religion! Another way he could put it is “Religion is the opiate of the people”. Just one more thing he has in common with Karl Marx
