Koon Makes It Official — He’s Not Running For Senate

David Koon made it official this morning.  He’s committed to a life of mediocrity — he’s going to try to stay on as the junior member of the Rochester Assembly majority delegation.  According to lowhud.com Koon made it official this morning:

Koon was initially thought to be a tough challenger to Alesi as Democrats seek to win the majority in the state Senate for the first time since 1965. Koon has won re-election in an Assembly seat in the eastern Monroe County suburbs that has a Republican majority.

But Koon said today that he will take a pass.

“I’m going to stay where I am,” he said. “I still have a lot of work to do that I can do in the Assembly. I just want to do a lot more work for Monroe County.”

Actually, Koon helping keep the Senate Republican is probably the best think he could could do for Monroe County — New York State for that matter.

I’m getting the feeling that the local media knew Koon’s candidacy was a joke from the beginning.  I haven’t seen this reported locally yet.  Again, good job on the timing of the announcement — the day they finally pass the state budget. Actually it’s probably great for Koon — it will lessen the embarrassment.

We will never know the truth of why Koon backed out.  Was it his goof-ball son?  Did Spitzer and company promise him a job if he ran and served for a short time?  Did Democrats see him for the paper tiger he is?  We reported in January that he only had $15,000 in his campaign account — hardly enough to run for Town Board let alone state senate.

Rumors are that former East Rochester Mayor David Bonnacci is trying to line up support for a possible run against the elder Koon.  After everything that has happened, it will be interesting to watch what promises to be an interesting race for the 135th this fall.

  1. Could someone please tell me what David Koon has done?

his wikipedia entry has something about Toxic Substances in 1996 and thats all.

He has been in a majority body for 12 years and has accomplished nothing. Maybe he should find a small town and run for mayor.
