What Is It With You Men And Prostitutes — Can’t You Keep It In Your Pants?
Gentle Reader:
I must confess, as open minded as I try to be, sometimes I just don’t get men. I read a story on DetroitNews.com about US Senator Debbie Stebenow’s husband being arrested for soliciting a prostitute.
This from the DetroitNews.com:
Radio executive Tom Athans, husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, expressed remorse Wednesday after being caught in February by a Troy police sting aimed at catching prostitutes.
(snip)
Athans, in a statement, said: “No words can fully express how sorry I am. At the time this incident occurred, I took responsibility for my actions and fully cooperated with law enforcement. My family and I are dealing with this matter in a personal and private way.”
Yes indeed, a personal and private way — front page national coverage. I realize every relationship has its up and downs — Mr. Izguhde and myself certainly have our share of challenges. I would imagine these challenges are greater for people in public service. Separation from family, members of the opposite sex drawn to power — I’m sure there are numerous temptations.
But going to a prostitute? What about masturbation? And while I certainly don’t condone affairs, they are much better than paying for sex. Going to prostitutes exposes you to disease, potential blackmail and the humiliation if caught.
The most damaging information on Senator Stebenow’s husband is below:
The report said Troy officers saw Athans enter a room under surveillance and leave 15 minutes later.
15 minutes for the introduction, negotiations, payment, undressing, performance of the act, cleaning yourself off after the act, and the obligatory uncomfortable small talk when the act is complete?
Anything that goes on between two consenting adults is ok with me, but women involved in prostitution really don’t give consent in my eyes — they are exploited. In this case by the “client” and by the police. The following really made me upset:
During the stings Troy police arrest only the prostitutes.
Detectives “stop people coming and going and interview them. If they have a cooperative witness, they will use that person to testify against the ring rather than arrest them. That’s what happened in this case,” Scherlinck said.
I just don’t get it. Maybe if these laws were changed to hold the men accountable from a legal stand point it might make them think twice.
My thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this sad episode.

Prudence
Who stands next to who in this situation? She is the power player, he is just some buffoon who is making her look bad. Does she even need to make a statement? Does his stupidity stand alone?
By the way did you notice it was the 6th paragraph before the Detroit News told us what party Ms. Stabenow belonged to? Even then it was to tell us of important legislation she was sponsoring.
Sorry Prudence but my prayers are with the Prostitute who is abused by these men. The justice system and the voters of Michigan can deal Mr. Athans.
Isn’t that radio network that Athens worked for the one that gave us Randi Rhodes? Maybe the Big F**ing Wh**re Randi was talking about wasn’t Hillary, maybe it was Mr Athens
