The RBA’s Sandy Parker — She Must Be Angling For Another Job

Am I the only one outraged by Sandy Parker, The Rochester Business Alliance’s President and CEO?  Sunday’s speaking out piece, which she wrote with Len Redon, criticizes the MCC Board of Trustees for adding Bill Smith and Dennis Kessler to the list of finalists for the MCC Presidency. In her piece she said:

By taking this action, the MCC trustees chose to diminish the work of the selection committees, and left us — and the community at large — with the impression that the board has an agenda that trumps the thorough, exhaustive, exemplary process that was appropriately followed given the significance of the job we are seeking to fill.

We can only hope that as this process moves toward its conclusion, the MCC trustees will rethink their action so that we can all rest assured the next president is hired based solely on outstanding qualifications. MCC and our community deserve nothing less.

So, now Sandy Parker is all about process. I can understand people’s concern with former Monroe County Legislator Bill Smith being placed in contention (we at Monroerising don’t share that concern — we think Smith would be an excellent choice), but how does the CEO of Rochester’s largest business advocacy group criticize the addition of one of Rochester’s most successful businessmen, Dennis Kessler?

Basically she’s bought into the argument that in order to be a successful college president at MCC you have to be a college president somewhere else.  Luckily for her the people at the RBA didn’t have the same criteria when they hired her — I don’t believe she’s ever run a business, so using her logic, she’s not qualified for the job she has.

How is it that the people at the RBA don’t reign her in — her political positions are starting to effect the credibility of their organization.  Look at her recent actions:

1) Widespread rumors that she was considering a run against County Executive Maggie Brooks last year.  A friend of mine actually received a polling call where her name was tested against Brooks.  (Evidently that data persuaded her that she wasn’t quite ready for that challenge.)

2) Who could forget her speaking ot piece in support of the FAIR Plan the was published in the Democrat and Chronicle the day after last year’s election?  The CEO of Rochester’s business advocacy group speaking in favor of a plan limiting tax increase the day after it matters.

3) And now she’s joined David Gantt and the liberal advocates complaining about process on the MCC Presidency.

I think she must be angling for another job.  Who knows, maybe when Economic Development Geezer Commission Carlos Carballada retires, she can replace him.  But for now, Sandy Parker should stop being a tool of the Democrats and focus on improving the business climate of New York State.

  1. What has been in the water lately? Why does everyone feel the need to complain about everything. As father says do they want some cheese with all this whine. I’m quite embarrased by this constant speaking out on issues thatare quite trivial and out of their control. One of these days an issue that is really bad will occur and due to their increasingly irrelevancy, people like David Gantt and Sandy Parker will be ignored by even their own former supporters.

  2. The word on the street is that Parker is just a female figure head/puppet for a group of old guys who are really running the show. These guys are using her and the RBA in an attempt to influence and control the political and education scene in this area.

Parker was an unknown in this community until the good ‘ol boys chased Tom Mooney out of the game to install her. It’s common knowledge that she’s not the sharpest tack in the pack and that all she needs in a little blown smoke in order to get on baord with whatever program they want. She was so far up Spitzer’s butt… well, nevermind about that one.

It’s odd how she seems to be at the forefront of issues that have nothing to do with the RBA. I’ll give the good ‘ol boys credit for trying to reign in the unions though, but those guys figured it out pretty quickly that they were just being played.

I hear Sandy’s going to announce that she’s gonna flip the coin to decide if it’s going to be Clinton or Obama.
