Morelle’s Endorsement Secures Committee Support for Rick Dollinger

Well, that didn’t take long.  Remember when I wrote that Joe Morelle’s endorsement of Rick Dollinger was going to effectively seal the deal for Dollinger to get the nomination to run for the 56th Senate race?  Sandy Frankel had already beaten Dollinger in Brighton with 53% of the vote.  Then Dollinger quickly releases an announcement that he has the endorsement of Democrat Assemblyman/Democrat County Party Chair Joe Morelle.  I said that Morelle’s endorsement would shift the Democrat Party machine’s support over to Rick and I was right.

Last night, the Greece and Parma Democrat Committees overwhelmingly endorsed Dollinger with 56% of the Greece votes and 60% of the Parma votes.  Now, it should be noted that only a total of about 51 Greece committee people voted and a paultry 12 Parma Democrat committee people bothered to show up, but the rules are the rules and Dollinger walks away with crushing percentages.

And Willa.  Well, as I said before, Willa is done.  Single digit percentages again with another 2% showing in Greece this time.  Willa Powell needs to hang it up.  You’d have thought that running in 2006 would have helped, but it definitely hasn’t.  Running against Joe Robach in ‘06 seems to have actually hurt her career.  After that run, and a pretty nasty campaign on her part from what little I recall, Willa Powell actually got the lowest Democrat vote total in the following year’s school board election.  I think 1 or 2 newcomers beat her in total votes on the Dem line in 2007.

It’s common knowledge that people in the City like Joe Robach.  I keep hearing that he and Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy are the only ones who even attend events in what the liberal elites consider “the bad parts of the city.”  My thinking is that Willa ticked City residents off when she attacked one of the few remaining elected officials that doesn’t just pay City folks lip service before heading back to their ivory towers.  I heard Powell lives in a very nice home near Park Avenue by the Brighton area.

Time will tell if Dollinger too can weather the same storm.  He’s not quite the ‘everyman’ blue collar type that’s reflective of the majority of people in the City, Greece and Parma.  We bet he’s never even been to Unkl Moe’s.  I’ve been there and believe me when I say they’ve got the best BBQ and Soul Food in Rochester.

So Dollinger moves two steps closer to the nomination.  With Morelle’s endorsement, Rick is a lock for the City committee’s votes.  Morelle pretty much controls the party now (he just let’s Assemblyman David Gantt feel like he’s the boss).

Although, what does it say for the local Democratic Political Machine that doesn’t want a woman to run for this seat?  Supporting gay marriage has just gone out the window for Democrat Party Leaders and now this.  Next thing you know, Democrat power brokers won’t want senior citizens to run for elected office.

  1. I’m really upset.

Joe Morelle is taking a page out of Steve Minarik’s playbook. Heavy handed politics, turning out people with political jobs and pressuring them to vote for Dollinger.

I was at that meeting. If you take out the people with government jobs, Sandy Frankel wins that election.

And evidently having a penis was the primary requirement for determining winners last night.

  2. Everybody talks about encouraging women to run for elected office, but this just shows that the political parties really don’t support women candidates.

The good old boys network are making sure that it’s still a man’s world.
