The Eliot Spitzer & David Patterson Show — New York’s Very Own Reality TV
You’ve got to hand it to the Democratic Party here in New York State. In keeping up with modern times the Dems have created their very own version of ‘Reality TV.’ You won’t be able to find what you’ve missed in the Democrat & Chronicle though. They seem to be more interested in helping David Gantt run for re-election than reporting on what potential illegal activity is taking place at the highest levels of state government.
The New York Sun reported yesterday that newly minted NY Governor David Paterson did indeed use taxpayer dollars for unnecessary hotel stays near the capital, even though he only lives 11 miles away and has a state provided chauffeur to drive him around. Paterson tossed former political colleague and ally, disgraced Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer, under the bus claiming that it was due to the demanding former Governor that Paterson needed to stay close by for the grueling schedule Spitzer forced then Lt. Gov. Paterson to keep pace with.
Paterson must have assumed that the media wasn’t capable of filling out Freedom of Information requests without the help and guidance of Spitzer’s staff. But, low and behold, The Sun reports the following:
Records suggest that many times Mr. Paterson’s day did not begin until 9 a.m. On one occasion, he did not have his first scheduled meeting until 2 p.m. Mr. Paterson used a state credit card to pay for 13 stays at Albany hotels - a boutique hotel near the Capitol Building called 74 State and the Crowne Plaza - between January 1, 2007, and late February of this year.
In addition, a former top aide to Mr. Spitzer disputed Mr. Paterson’s recollection of his role.
“David was not a big part in our morning news events,” the aide said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “To say that he was needed to be with the governor? No.”
OK, so first we have former Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned due to a scandal that involved his paying at s $80,000 for prostitutes and committing felony level crimes of human trafficking, money laundering and financial structuring. Now, we have replacement Governor David Paterson, who released information that he had not one, but at least five extramarital affairs, and now appears to have lied about using taxpayer money for hotel rooms recently that may be related to one affair that he says was over in 2001. He’s also admitted to cocaine and marijuana use earlier in his life and there are numerous instances mentioned where he illegally used campaign dollars for his own personal use.
New Yorkers must be glued to their televisions, flipping through radio stations in their cars and searching the internet to capture the latest tidbit in this ongoing saga. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s episode of “Democrats Gone Wild!”

Excellent article, Mr. Peabody. The contention that a Lt. Governor had to be within a few blocks of the capital for the government to function is ridiculous on its face. The public’s apathy regarding the new governor is shocking.
Of course, it’s not like the mainstream media is covering the story. In their role of information gatekeepers, outlets like the D&C are abject failures.
