It is being reported in The Buffalo News, the Associated Press and by The Democrat & Chronicle’s Jill Terreri that according to Niagara County Republican Chariman Henry Wojtaszek,  NYS Senator George Maziarz, believed to be the frontrunner to replace the retiring Congressman Tom Reynolds, will not be seeking the GOP’s nomination to run for this seat.  Here’s a snippet from Terreri’s article:

Maziarz weighed family considerations, his position of leadership in the state Senate — he is chairman of the Energy Committee — and projects he has yet to finish in his district, Wojtaszek said.

We had heard some buzzing earlier today about his not running but the rumors could not be confirmed.  Maziarz formally told his inner circle of supporters this morning and it is now officially being reported that he indeed will not run for the seat.

The race for the nomination is now wide open.
