Leave It To Louise Slaughter — Politicizing a Veteran’s Ceremony

The Democrat and Chronicle had a great story on Monday about Samuel Rozella. He’s a WWII vet and was given the Chevalier Legion of Honor for his role in the liberation of France. There was a big crowd in Brighton — Congresswoman Louise Slaughter was there, as was NYS Senate candidate Sandy Frankel.

Mr. Rozella really seems like a class act.  No surprise I guess.  A schlub wouldn’t have the record of accomplishment that he has.  Tom Brokaw was right on the money when he called the WWII vet’s America’s greatest generation.

According to the D&C:

Moments earlier Slaughter pinned the Chevalier Legion of Honor to Rosella’s brown wool Army uniform, right beside the Bronze Star and Purple Hearts he had already been awarded for his service with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge.

“I cry every time I hear of a soldier getting killed” or wounded, Rosella said, as he broke into tears.

Sunday’s ceremony at the St. John’s Meadows senior community in Brighton marked the official presentation of the medal, which was awarded by the French government to commemorate Rosella’s role in the liberation of France.

At the moment of a lifetime, Mr. Rosella shared how he thought of others.  How he shared a family’s pain over the loss of a loved one.

Then look what Louise Slaughter had to say:

Speaking to Rosella and other World War II veterans in the audience, Slaughter said they did more than liberate Europe.

“You won for your country the affection, the respect and the love of everybody on this earth — until very recently,” she said. “We’re working very hard to get that back, but we owe you so much for what you did to make that liberation possible.”

Another person’s moment of a lifetime and Louise can’t help but make it about her and hard how she and Nancy Pelosi are fighting to restore America’s dignity.

I know anone who runs for office — not to mention someone who started running for public office during the Nixon Administration and been in Congress for 20 years, must have a pretty big ego.  But even by these standards the Congresswoman’s comments were over the top!

  1. Rocky

Boy the old gal sure has a set of balls!

About the only comment I can make is that this is another reason for keeping a Republican senate. If the democrats get hold of both houses we can for sure see more gerrymandered congressional districts designed to keep people of her like minded in power. Take a look at Louise’s district:

    28th District Map

Its one of the oddest shapes in the country. Mostly inner city Buffalo and Rochester, just enough of a sliver to include her home in Fairport. I would have a little more respect for her if she moved in to the inner city with her constituents instead of being a limousine liberal.

  2. Does Louise belong to the same church that Obama does? Sounds like she is an America hater as well.

  3. Amazing. It always seems to come back to the myopic viewpoint that is frequently espoused on this most conservative blog — America is wonderful, Republicans are wonderful, the Bush Administration is wonderful, John McCain is wonderful …….

Those ungrateful _________________ don’t know what they have nor how much the above have sacrificed for them (fill in the blank with your favorite group — blacks, gays, women, Democrats, liberals etc.).

It would be funny if it were not quite so pathetic and misinformed.

    Bad Prudence
p.s. — perhaps you should listen carefully to what Obama said in his speech today — he was referring to YOU!

  4. When are you darn Republicans going to learn that when a liberal challenges your viewpoints, it is because they are practicing free speech, necessary civil disobediance and questioning the evil government. They are doing a good thing.

But when republicans challenges a liberal’s viewpoints, well, heck… you are all freakin racists, fearmongers and you hate women. You are doing a bad thing.

Is that so hard to figure out? Geez, get with the damn program!
