News 10 NBC Forum Removed - Station Announces Decision Amid Concerns Over Certain User Comments
A frequent visitor to Monroerising.com sent us a link to the above announcement from News 10 NBC (Thanks for the e-mail! Glad you’re enjoying the site.) Unfortunately, if you click on the link, www.whec.com - News 10 NBC Forum removed it no longer brings you to the story. We’re not sure if Channel 10’s intention was to just have it serve as a one-day story announcement from Monday, March 3rd, or if the issue is back on the table for discussion.
Either way, I was able to read the link once while it still connected to the story (sorry for not getting this up sooner), but I’ll admit that I’m paraphrasing from my poor short term memory. News 10 NBC basically stated that due to what they believed to be a number of inappropriate comments made by some posters on various stories, they felt that they could no longer support a comment section on their website and had made the decision to remove their forum.
Feel free to debate whether you believe this to be a good or bad decision on the station’s part, whether it’s a 1st Amendment infringement, or if you really could care less - but while I feel that online media forums serve a purpose (from allowing the public to debate an issue, to challenge the media outlet’s reporting, or to just vent their frustrations) I’d like to take a moment to at least review this station’s response to what they believe where, at times, out of control comments from anonymous posters that do cross a line with blatantly malicious intentions.
Wherever you fall in this discussion, I’m sure the vast majority of us would at the very least acknowledge that certain comments, words or phrasing, do not truly belong in such a public forum. Just yesterday, Evan Dawson, who runs 13WHAM’s forum, had to reprimand a poster who made a very aggressive statement in a post that in any other venue just might have gotten this person a visit from his or her friendly neighborhood policeofficer.
While I’m not sure about the decision, I’ll give credit to News 10 NBC for at least addressing this problem. More and more I wish the Democrat & Chronicle would do the same. Kudos to their Community blog leaders who will interject themselves to try to bring discussion back to civility, but the storychats are often times a vicious free-for-all. But hey, they’re trying to sell website advertising, so drawing viewers in to watch all the nasty forum fights must be worth it to them.

But I suppose vicious comments and unfounded innuendos are fine for a blog such as this, so long as it serves to bash Democrats, liberals and inner-city ‘folks’. The goose and gander seem to live by different rules, huh?
Bad Prudence
Dear Prudence (the bad one):
Actually the answer to your question is yes. Of course I take exception to how you characterize these comments — but we are not a news site.
When people go to the D&C’s website and other traditional newsoutlets, they expect to see news — not the opinion of some Republican hating activists.
Here at Monroerising.com we are an opinion site that occasionaly breaks news. We are a forum for people to discuss ideas and we are looking to help fill a void by offering a conservative perspective.
Furthermore, I challenge you to point out any unfounded innuendo. Personally, I feel the need to “bash” as you call it, I prefer the term holding them accountable, Democrats because of the left wing media bias that you probably can’t even admit exists.
I don’t think there have been any vicious comments — it very well could be that the truth hurts and if it hurts your feelings than I am sorry.

Prude,
Hello Pot.
It’s obvious that your intent is to try to disrupt the efforts of this blog and those of us who post here with your very weak argument. “Vicious comments?” That’s typical liberal/progressive attack speech you guys use to try to steal sympathy from people you’re looking to dupe. You’re so barking up the wrong tree here. I don’t see any conservative minded people here suggesting an elected official go shoot his wife. This was actually posted on a media blog site. That’s the liberal side doin that baby. Have them keep it up. It sooooo helps the regular people see through the libs’ bullsh–.
It appears monroerising and upstatedown has forced the liberal newspaper to do a quick reorganization. New look. I wonder if we are going to get the same old same old, or are they training their editors to be more upfront. Hmm, well see. If not, cancel my subscription.
