Ethics Rules Apply to Democrats Too

Earlier today, Mr. Peabody reported that the town of Brighton website has a link that (eventually) leads to Sandra Frankel’s campaign website.

Hmmm…taxpayer funds being used to help advertise the Senate campaign of the Brighton Supervisor….  That sounds like the sort of thing that Governor Steamroller and the rest of the good government crowd would whine about.  In fact they might even pass a law.

Like Public Officers Law 73-b:  ”no elected government official or candidate for elected local, state or federal office shall knowingly appear in any advertisement or promotion, including public or community service announcements, published or broadcast through any print or electronic media (including television, radio and internet) by any private or commercial entity or any other entity that publishes such advertisement for a fee, if the advertisement or promotion is paid for or produced in whole or in part with funds of the state, a political subdivision thereof or a public authority.”

The law goes on to state, “Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be liable for a civil penalty of not less than one thousand dollars nor more than five thousand dollars.  And that person shall be criticized by bloggers located in the political subdivision in which he or she resides.”  (Yes, I made up that last part.)

I sure hope that the Frankel for State Senate campaign has about $5,000 stashed away in a “oops, we violated the ethics rules” fund.

  1. Unbelievable! Can you imagine if Joe Robach or Maggie Brooks pulled a stunt like this? Fat chance Gov. Steamroller will ever have her fined.

  2. Assemblyman David Gantt’s buddy basically assaults a police officer, County Legislator Dick Beebe breaks state election laws and Sandy Frankel has a link on the town’s government website that leads to her political campaign website.

Sandy hasn’t even ordered the political link to be taken off the government site yet. Why is the media still ignoring this story? Sadly, this is typical.
